However, there are certain bosses that would favour a Scepter elementalist. Because you don't need to manually target anything, namely Phoenix from Scepter, you can also use the "Snap to target on ground abilities", thus saving you precious time in your rotation. With the Dagger/Warhorn, the rotation is reduced to 8-10 buttons, and you are able to shoot off the skills quicker, thus doing damage faster and you have cleaving abilities with lightning auto attack.

It is true that Scepter/Warhorn does the highest dps on a large hitbox boss, and good damage on small hitboxes, but it requires a flawless rotation particularly with Phoenix, and requires you to pull the rotation off on the target (you're looking at a 10-12 button rotation, with a possible slight pause on a bad day for Air Attunement to refresh) and not having to accidently use the orb at the wrong direction due to the chaos of battle (trust me, you've done this with Phoenix too). This ensures that your Lightning Orb is always cast towards your target. No need to make sure Phoenix is cast behind the boss, thus allowing you to use "Snap to target for ground abilities" option. Skills always fire off during fire attunement over Scepter (no animation delay with Flame Spike or Phoenix) Some things to point out:įire Attunement phase lasts half the time required over the Scepter build, as Air attunement is almost guaranteed to refresh the moment you use Blazing Speed, thus allowing you to use Air Overload soonerĪir attunement dagger auto attack does a ton more damage of Scepter and cleaves So I had a play around with the Dagger/Warhorn build and immediately I found that I can achieve a high level of dps -MUCH- easier. Hoping that Air attunement is refreshed right after Fire attunement's dragon spike (skill 2), if signet of storms wasn't cast during air attunement to proc the crit trait (thus refreshing air attunement in fire) Making sure Phoenix is cast during fire attunement (as too fast a finger means the skill doesn't fire off before switching back to air attunement) Making sure Phoenix is cast behind the boss (RNG element involved depending on movement) However, I have found that I can only top the meters for boss fights if I play the Scepter/Warhorn flawlessly, such as In more than a few cases, I'm usually up there with the dps meters, beaten only by a well played Daredevil or Reaper or a Condi Tempest. The build I've been using had been from the QTFY Fractal build. I've been playing a Scepter/Warhorn Elementalist for the past month, which allowed me to climb from T3 Fractals to T4 and have finally cleared Fractal 100 more than a few times. (entire group just got kicked from fractals). Just wanted to share some personal findings with my Elementalist while we're waiting for a hotfix for GW2.
